In a world that has turned almost exclusively to digital recording, James Griffin maintains one of the few forensic audio and video laboratories that is still capable of analyzing analog recordings.  Standard audio cassettes, micro cassettes, mini cassettes, and reel to reel tapes are among the audio tapes still being received.  Video tape formats include VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, 8mm, Hi 8mm, Digital 8, MiniDV and others.

As an example of the challenges we are given, a state court judge recently turned to Griffin Media Forensics to restore the audio quality of a 1982 trial recording.  The case was under appeal, and the court reporter’s 15/16 ips reel to reel analog tape was the only remaining record of the original trial.
